Current Questions Question: More people seem to be suffering with anxiety attacks than ever before, & unfortunately I am one of them. I just hate the idea of living my life on medications, but without them I'm afraid to even leave the house. It bothers me that I can't get a handle on this part of my life. All of my medical tests show that I'm in great health, and that makes me even more anxious. Are there things I can be doing that are more holistic & have fewer side effects? ANSWER Question: Is it just me, or is everyone suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Gastric Reflux? I was at a party last night & believe it or not this was the hot topic of conversation! Some sufferers took their medications before they ate, & others after they ate. Each seemed to have their own set of rules ®ulations. I've been reading your column & wonder how you see this gut-wrenching epidemic. Most of all, are there any PREVENTION tools you can share? I hate the idea of stomaching this along with my high blood pressure & other physical declines! ANSWER Question: When I was younger it was much easier to lose those extra pounds after the holidays. Now Iam middle-aged & not only do I seem to gain weight more easily, but it is becoming increasingly more difficult to lose those extra pounds. Why is this & what can I do to keep a healthy weight other than starve myself? ANSWER Question: My husband & I had really been looking forward to taking an early retirement.. Almost from day one we have been getting on each other's nerves & we seem to argue more than ever. To make matters worse, we are starting to gain weight, and neither of us feels well physically. According to our physician, we check out fine. To be very honest the idea of a long retirement like this scares me. I'd be happy to have some insights in this regard. ANSWER Question: My doctor has told me I must stop smoking for health reasons, and even though I realize this habit is not good for me, I do enjoy it. Ive been smoking since I was a teen, and wonder if stopping will really make a difference to my health outcomes. I also wonder if it is possible for someone like me to stop, given the addictive properties of nicotine. Any insights? ANSWER
