Developing the Power of Motivation

How do we motivate ourselves, especially when we really don't want to do whatever it is?  How can we move from inertia and stay out of procrastincation long enough to reach our goals?  What is the magic formula?

There is a formula, but it sin't magic!  When we employ specific mind/body techniques, we find that striving and effort are diminshed, and a pathway to the goal has been cleared for us, making the journey easier and more enjoyable.  As we begin to practice the techniques with patience and perserverance, an inner self-discipline develops.  We feel more confident, our minds are clearer, and our energy levels are up for longer periods of time.  We begin to notice our creative juices are flowing, and we become eager to move forward towards our goals.  The obstructions of the past become stepping-stones and actually catapult us ahead.

Step one is taking charge of our nutrition for high level performance!

Like any athlete, or high performance professional, we need to care for our mind/body.   You cannot expect to feel motivated, and to experience high-level functioning while you are not doing your part.  Each of us has specific needs based on our own situation.  When considering our dietary needs we must know how much food our body needs, and what kinds of foods.  Certain people, due to their family and personal medical history, cannot function well with high-glycemic choices throughout the day.   They become sluggish, tired, oand often unable to concentrate any any reasonable level.  Others are sensitve to caffeine, sugars, nicotine, and artificial sweetneers.   Any of these can really rock your motivational boat.  Once the nutrition is in place, your level of motivation may be somewhat elevated and waiting for the next step!

Step two is learning to quiet the mind!

If the cup is full, you can't put more into it.  The same happens with the mind.   One must create space, so new ideas can come forward.  Many people spend their day in run-away brain syndrome.  Their wheels keep spinning, but they go nowhere.   As we quiet the mind on a regular basis, through fractionation meditation techniques, we are able to make a clearing where the goal will sit.  Quieting the mind, and making clear goal pictures is an important part of the motivation formula.   The brain actually works backwards.  Once it can see the goal clearly in all it's glory, it will do whateer is necessary to achieve it.  Most of us never seem to get that far.  We must practice quieting the mind, and releasing the excess thoughts, emotional states, and their related body senstions.  We do this on a daily asis, and throughout the day with specific tools.  They are easy to learn, fun, and bring a high level of performance to those who practice, practice, practice!

Step three is getting out of automatic pilot!

We cannot become self-aware if we are on auto-pilot, and staying in this state is counter-productive to achieving our goals.  We are basically at the mercy of our thoughts, emotional states and related body sensations.  We become fixated in this cycele.  We break the cycle through the practive of self-awareness tools, or awareness meditation.  As we become experts at noticing our emotions and thoughts, we find ourselves feeling more and more open to reaching the goals, even if the goals are something we would rather not do.  We see the reality of moving through them, so we can spend time doing what we want to do.  Rarely do we even consider that we don't want to do something.  This sets the stage for the arrival of unpleasantness.   Instead, we learn to re-frame the goal, and see it in another light.

Step four is developing a toolbox of visualization, imagery and other self-hynotic devices!

Once we learn to access the subconscious mind we are free to develop exactly what we want, and how we want it. These are very powerful tools, and not only motivate, but bring forth new ideas and suggestions that are often on the way, even before we know it.   Working with the hypnosis workshop, re-programming, sending subconscious commands, post-hypnotic suggestions, requesting dream intervention, and the like, form some of our power tools.
